Description
The Vehicle Meteorological Sensor (VMS) is the all-in-one meteorological sensing unit that measures hyperlocal weather conditions, including wind speed/direction, temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity, for ground vehicles used by first responders, firefighters, search-and-rescue, and hazmat teams. The VMS provides continuous monitoring of critical weather parameters and supports local or network data sharing. With features like built-in diagnostics and fault reporting, the VMS is ready to go in less than 10 seconds from power-up, all while not adding significant weight or taking up valuable space on emergency response vehicles.
Thanks to its solid-state design, the VMS contains no moving parts, requires no special tools, and requires zero field level maintenance, greatly improving its reliability. It is designed to minimize equipment damage, degradation of efficiency, or mission failure due to operator-induced errors, improper cabling, power failure or electrical overstress of components, and improper installation, storage operation, handling, maintenance, and transportation. A single shielded cable connects to the unit delivering standard vehicle power to operate the system and provides RS-422 data to support sensor communication with local users.
The VMS is qualified to work in the harshest of environments, including smoke, salt, fog, sand, dust, snow, ice, rain, and extreme altitudes. It also meets military ground vehicle EMI requirements, ensuring the sensor remains operational and does not interfere with other critical electrical equipment.
